"In My Mind"

An interesting look into Asperger's Disorder, from someone who has it. He uses computer drawn images to get his points across.
"Now, one thing I do have to say, is that if there were an antidote for Asperger's, I would not take it. Because I would not get rid of what makes me who I am..."

Hello American Medic,
I just this minute found your blog, I really like it alot and look forward to hearing about your adventures across the pond. What a coincidence, my 15 year old son has Asperger's, his main issue is with socializing, although he is doing alot better with that. He attends a private school where they deal with many types of what they call "learning styles" (disabilities).
Thanks for your blog, best wishes, tracy in va bakestuff@hotmail.com
Hi AM,
Me again. I wrote to you before I had watched the video...amazing! The boy in the video reminds me so much of my son. I loved the way he explained his thought process and the ways he learned, how he believed others thought of him, etc...I think I just learned more about my son than I have in the last 7 years, since we found out he had AS. Thank you sooo very much! I am going to reccomend your site and this video to my son's school, the administrators and teachers...it is excellent.
Thank you again, ever so much, tracy
Thanks so much for the feedback - you're one of the first people who I haven't met in real life to read my blog! :-P
I'm glad the video helped..it was a purely incidental finding for me - was procrastinating and found it on YouTube!
Hello Aimb,
Thank you for replying to me so quickly. I am very interested in all things medical...unfortunately, I am not a Med student : ( If I could "do it all again"...but now I am an "old lady" and the closest I got to anything in the health careers was becoming an emt, which I loved, especially the time we got to spend in the er...I hope to recert sometime in the near future. Anyhow, I just wanted you to know that even though I am not in the medical field, I truly am very interested in all you have to share about it...and whatever else....thanks, tracy (the old 46 year old)
trust me, by no means is 46 old!
i did an EMT cert this past summer as well, which is fun because the i did my ER time in the same hospital that I volunteer and shadow at - they see me going from stage to stage, and always tell me how proud they are
good luck with the recert, and thanks again for reading!
thank you so much for putting this on your blog! (and submitting it the shrink rap's Grand Rounds, where I first saw the link). I've emailed the link to about five people I know who work with kids and have those with Asberger's on occasion. Great resource!
